Independent Rear Suspension for your Ford or Chevy
Truck
Team321 LLC now offers a simple IRS solution

Why should I install an
Independent Rear Suspension in my car or truck? What are the benefits ? What's
the price? How does an IRS differ from a solid axle?
You can find the answers to these and other questions below... The
animation below shows the difference between a solid axle and an IRS
suspension. While this animation is overly simple, I'm sure you'd agree
that an IRS is fundamentally better than a solid axle...
There is a good deal of information below... and I continue to add information
based on questions / comments I receive from customers. Contact me via email or

This is an Independent Rear Suspension
going over bumps...

The animation represents a solid axle and an
Independent Rear Suspension as each side rises and falls due to road
conditions. In addition to the stability of an IRS on uneven roads, there
is a performance aspect of an IRS that may be missed.
The major advantage of an IRS over a solid axle has to do with the overall
stability of the vehicle in different road conditions. These conditions may be
uneven pavement, high speed cornering, etc. Since the IRS allows either side to
rise or fall "independently" of the other side, the frame ( and
therefore the body, occupants and center of mass ) remain in a relatively
constant location. This leads to the vehicle being more stable.
The image below shows the adapters ( in white
) mounted to the T bird subframe. These 4 adapters are welded to your truck's
frame. The T bird subframe is then bolted to the mounts. The installation will
take approximately 2 hours and requires welding.

Here is the view from from the back of the
truck... of course the Bed has been removed.

Here is another shot from the rear... This one
shows the suspension using the Factory Thunderbird Spring... Airbags may be
used as well.

Here's a shot from the top showing the IRS
assembly.

Now you can put an Independent Rear suspension under your 1948 - 1979 Ford or
1955 - 1959 Chevy Truck or 1973 - 1987 Chevy Truck - and
possibly many other years / types... (we just haven't tested them yet ).
Initial measurements of Ford Ranger ( 1995 ) frames indicate that the IRS will
work with those models as well. These adapters are currently under development.

Using the widely available Ford Thunderbird or Lincoln Mark 8 Rear Suspension -
Team321 LLC makes
the adapter brackets to mount the Ford IRS under your Ford truck.
The adapters must be welded to your truck frame - and you must supply your own
Ford / Lincoln rear suspension subframe.
The entire IRS from the Ford / Lincoln is used... There is nothing else to
buy! You utilize the differential, axles, control arms, spindles,
springs, shocks, sway bar, hubs and the brakes... No additional, costly brakes
or hard-to-find pieces. Any replacement parts can be purchased at an auto parts
store or your local Ford / Lincoln dealership... you can even use the wheels
and tires - although you will likely want to upgrade them... You don't even
need to remove any components from the subframe... The adapter brackets bolt to
the subframe using the original mounting locations.
Installation of the IRS consists of welding the adapter brackets to your
Truck's bare frame... The original leaf springs and their respective mounts
must be removed... Once the frame is ready for the adapters, roll the subframe
under the truck's frame - wheels and all... Bolt the adapter brackets to the
IRS subframe, clamp the adapter brackets into place, measure, measure and
measure again... Then weld the brackets into place.
Taking this IRS option one step further... you can replace the factory Springs
with airbags... This gives you the ultimate in ride height adjustability. These
IRS units have been in use for 10 years and now with the growing popularity of
classic trucks, Team321 LLC
is bringing this product to the ever-growing truck market. Click HERE for details
regarding airbag installations.
The cost of these adapter brackets is $395 ( plus
shipping ).
If you are located in Florida and are willing to meet the following conditions
- We will sell the adapter brackets at the discounted price of $295 and
deliver them in-person and assist with installation.
Team321 LLC will not
perform the actual welding, but we will assist with the prep, measurement and
positioning of all of the brackets. The purpose of this offer is to verify /
improve our installation instruction, verify the fit of the fabricated
components and generally assist fellow builders / fabrications / hot - rodders
- and ultimately generate some reference accounts to sell this product in 2007.
Further, if you would like to become a recommended installation shop, you can
make plenty of $$$ with minimal effort installing these adapters / IRS to the
growing truck market.
Lastly, if you have a Chevy, Dodge or other make truck and want to test this
solution... contact me as well. I would be happy to modify the adapters ( if
possible ) to add more applications to the list.
